Briefly noted…

Creativity all around. There’s a lot going on. Here are some recent sightings:

  • YouTube interpreted: The Kuttner Show is a German fast-talking (in Berliner dialect!) entertainer’s take on our media culture as seen through popular videos on YouTube. If you know German it’s highly recommended, if you don’t, watch it nonetheless for the smart production and the clips. Readers criticize the length, however. The first episode is 17 minutes, the second 11. Clear tendency.
  • The world as mosaic: A Moment On Earth gets top marks for sheer beauty. August 5th 2004 seen through the eyes of videomakers all over the world. From naked text to compelling presentations like this one – the web is gaining production quality.
  • Pete Townshend, web hero part 1: Once upon a time David Bowie was the genius of reinvention with all his image shifts. Well, today The Who legend Pete Townshend has overtaken him. Enjoy In The Attic, a podcast show in several installments that Townshend makes with his partner Rachel Fuller. Here with The Kooks:

If you read Norwegian, take a look at Vox Publica’s new Flimmer podcast/video blog, where I learned about this.

  • Pete Townshend, web hero part 2: But Townshend is also working on his memoirs, and of course he is blogging about the writing process. Judging by the reactions, the fans are overjoyed. What a great project. This quote shows how much Townshend has understood of today’s media world:

The excerpts now posted are meant to be read quickly and without too much deep engagement. These excerpts are drafts and may change. I have no objection to anyone copying the postings and following the changes made in response to comments or other input. If you have made copies of earlier postings I have no objection to their distribution among interested readers. This is after all an unashamed promotion for a forthcoming book. It all adds to the soup. (posted on the parallel Townshend blog)
