Google control freaks

Looking forward to hear the explanation for this one: At the Motion conference in Kristiansand this week, Google’s country manager for Norway, Jan Grønbech, will be talking about branding. The organizers are creating high expectations with this laconic message in the reminder e-mail:

Photo, video and sound recordings are not allowed during Jan Grønbech’s talk. We urge the media to respect this.

Hmm, what might he reveal? Google’s obsession with corporate secrecy has always looked strange for a company that thrives and depends on everybody else making as much information public as humanly possible. So far their main product has been so good that the reputation backlash that their information policy invites has been postponed. But there are plenty of competitors out there who would love to exploit this (unnecessary) vulnerability, especially among the world’s incumbent media companies.

In all fairness, though: some Google presentations do exist online as well – tightly controlled, then? Judge yourself..
